A night with a few ladies, Avondale wine, and Reuben’s soup
The 6 phase pairing includes traditional classics as well as adventurous combinations of soup created by chef Reuben Riffel from Reuben’s. Each phase was carefully paired with a wine from Avondale’s selection of wine.

The proprietor, Johnathon Grieve and Corne Marais, winemaker of Avondale explained the complexity of the soil we were standing on. If you’re not an Eco-hero and think this talk would be boring, go and hear for yourself! It was very interesting to discover the Avondale farm soil consist of 13 different types of soil.
The sunlight was slowly slipping away, and it was time to head back to the manor house, were the cellar tour started. Here Johnathan explained the advantages of having a gravity-flow cellar.

After completing the cellar tour, we all walked back up to the tasting room, where a long table was set for us. A fireplace at the end of the table, creating a warm ambiance.

After the we completed that 6 phase Winter pairing. We had the opportunity to ask more questions about the true nature of Avondale farm & family. Myself and Hestelle [KoekiesEnCream] had to ask chef Reuben for a few cooking tips. We carried on mingling and I had to get a second serving of the Truffle soup. 😉
