Last night we attended the grand opening of Alforno Café and Bistro. Alforno is situated in Cape Quarter in De Waterkant, Cape Town.
Alforno is a trendy new spot with authentic Italian dishes on the menu. The owner, Dominique is described as a very “hands-on-kind-of-guy” and he has been in the industry for many years. Dominique loves to see people enjoy his food and provide a great atmosphere for his clients. He is also originally from Mauritius, but his heart is now in Cape Town.

The menu is not excessively big, but that is a good thing! In true Italian style the menu has a selection of starters (Primo) and mains (Secondi). There are also daily specials, so make sure to check out the blackboard. The menu is well priced, and besides pizza and pasta. They have a selection of grills and salads. Alforno also caters for the early birds with a breakfast menu.
We were treated to a tasting menu including a little bit of everything. The food is fresh and the use of herbs is well used throughout all the dishes. Obviously, the highlight for me was the pizza. Nothing tastes as good as a pizza made in a real wood-fired oven.
The red pipes and wall features has a modern look and feel to it. The space is open and clean. The atmosphere is more relaxed and romantic. Perfect for date night!
